And because memory foam is made from a dense structure — as opposed to the porousness of coil or spring mattresses — memory foam mattresses provide no breeding ground for dust mites.
Another great option for preventing allergies is latex mattresses. In addition to being resistant to dust mites, latex mattresses are also resistant to mould and mildew, two other potential causes of nighttime allergies.
Latex mattresses also have an added health benefit: They tend to be rated more highly in areas like pain relief and prevention. So when you switch to a latex mattress you won’t just be eliminating a potential irritant, you could also be reducing the amount of pain you feel throughout the day.
